Li Ning & HongShan form JV for global brand expansion

Li Ning Company Limited announced the formation of a joint venture (JV) in the British Virgin Islands with HongShan Venture and others to develop the Li Ning Brand in international markets.
The JV leverages Li Ning’s brand leadership and HongShan’s transnational resources.
Li Ning will hold 55 per cent of the JV shares, maintaining control while benefitting from HongShan’s expertise.

Canada’s Lululemon & Fanatics partner with NHL for new apparel line

Lululemon and Fanatics announced a multi-year partnership with the NHL to launch fan apparel for 11 teams in the 2024-25 season, expanding to all 32 teams by 2025-26.
The collection includes popular Lululemon items featuring team logos, available from October 29 in select stores and online.

South Korea’s apparel imports surge 5.8% to $1.31 bn in Sept 2024

South Korea’s apparel imports rose to $1.39 billion in September 2024, a 5.87 per cent year over year increase, and 11.40 per cent higher than August 2024.
Imports of knitted and non-knitted apparel were valued at $549.7 million and $837.9 million, respectively.
The country typically exports textile materials, with man-made filaments and knitted fabrics being key export items.

Bangladesh interim govt dissolves BGMEA board, appoints administrator

The interim government in Bangladesh has dissolved the board of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association and appointed Mohammad Anwar Hossain, vice chairman of the Export Promotion Bureau as an administrator to oversee its activities.
Hossain has been instructed to conduct a ‘fair and neutral’ election within 120 days and hand over duties to the elected committee.

Japan’s clothing imports up 3.5% in H1 FY25, machinery exports drop

Japan’s clothing and accessory imports rose by 3.5 per cent to 1,842,869 million yen in the first half of fiscal 2024-25.
Imports of textile yarn and fabric increased by 2.2 per cent, while exports of textile yarn and fabric grew by 6.8 per cent.
However, exports of textile machinery fell by 25 per cent.
In September 2024, imports of clothing and accessories declined by 8.3 per cent year-on-year.
