Sri Lanka’s garment exports up 2.3% to $3 bn in Jan-Aug 2024

Sri Lanka’s garment exports rose by 2.3 per cent to $3.09 billion in Jan-Aug, while textile exports declined by 14.9 per cent.
Exports of other made-up textile articles rose by 7.3 per cent, contributing to total textile product exports of $3.36 billion.
Imports of textiles and clothing saw significant growth, with textiles rising 16.1 per cent and clothing up 26.8 per cent in the same period.

US apparel imports worth $79.3 bn in 2023; majority sourced from Asia

US apparel imports totalled $79.3 billion in 2023, with the majority sourced from Asia, a report released yesterday by the US International Trade Commission said.
Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia and Pakistan accounted for a combined 27 per cent of US apparel imports last year.
Quality and detailed finishing contribute to the competitiveness of India’s apparel production, the report noted.

South Korea’s apparel imports slip 3.3% to $1.24 bn in Aug 2024

South Korea’s apparel imports totalled $1.245 billion in August 2024, a 3.33 per cent decline year-on-year but a 22.05 per cent rise month-on-month.
Imports of knitted and non-knitted apparel amounted to $516.533 million and $728.598 million, respectively.
Total apparel imports for January-August reached $7.797 billion.
It also exported man-made filaments and knitted fabrics during this period.
