Africa to face shrinking access to US if AGOA not renewed: UNCTAD

Unless the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) is renewed, African exporters of agricultural and the light manufacturing industrial products could face shrinking market access to the US, undermining prospects for diversification, UNCTAD recently said.
Small exporting countries specialising in apparel and agricultural products would be among the most affected, it noted.

Turkiye’s apparel exports fall 7.25% in Jan–Aug 2025

Turkiye’s apparel exports fell 7.25 per cent YoY to $10.88 billion in January–August 2025, with both knitted (–5.6 per cent) and non-knitted (–9.5 per cent) categories declining.
August shipments dropped 8.67 per cent.
In contrast, imports of woven apparel surged 19.7 per cent in the period.
Rising labour costs and competition from South Asia continue to pressure Turkiye’s textile competitiveness.
