The Association of Ghana Apparel Manufacturers (AGAM) recently called for a national procurement policy for garments and textiles, saying such a step may create over 100,000 jobs.
If the government makes it compulsory for state institutions to procure uniforms and other garments from domestic manufacturers, the apparel sector can absorb thousands of unemployed youth, AGAM noted.

PDS Limited has reported higher FY26 revenue and profit despite global trade and demand uncertainties.

The fall reflected subdued demand in key European markets, cost pressures, and geopolitical uncertainties, although fibre shipments showed slight sequential improvement from Q4 2025.

Nigerian state-run Kwara Garment Factory has signed a pact agreement with KWS Garment Production Village, allowing the latter to manage and run the former.
A minimum of 80 per cent of the factory’s production workforce will be women and indigenes of Kwara state.

UK’s clothing imports declined 3.04 per cent year-on-year to £3.95 billion during January–March 2026, while textile fabric imports also edged lower, according to Office for National Statistics data.
March clothing imports fell 6.34 per cent from a year earlier.
The figures reflected softer apparel demand after the UK recorded moderate import growth in 2025 following a sharp decline in 2023.

Japanese sportswear company Asics Corporation has reported record Q1 FY26 earnings, with net sales rising 29.7 per cent YoY to ¥270.2 billion (~$1.7 billion), driven by growth across categories and regions.
Operating profit grew 36.5 per cent, while SportStyle, Onitsuka Tiger, Europe, Japan, and Southeast and South Asia led gains.
Asics maintained its FY26 sales forecast at ¥950 billion (~$5.99 billion).
